Sunday thoughts: I was about to post and say how I’m not an artist but I like to fool around to relax… Then I realized that really isn’t who I am. I believe that we all are capable of anything we want to do. Am I van Gogh? no I have not studied, but it is really relaxing and meditative to just fool around and fiddle and figure out what comes. This developed into something way more intense for my retreat next weekend but it just was a nice moment. When is the last time you let yourself go without restriction to do something you don’t normally do?

Find Joy in all things.
It is simple enough, yet, let's face it, we do not do it often. At times we make our lives so much harder than they need to be. It is human nature. Gratitude is often talked about nowadays. 'Just find one thing every day you are grateful for in the moment.' While some do this, it feels as if more reserve it for that one month a year. But, what about Joy? When you hear the word Joy, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? This week a dear friend painted me this beautiful flower and sent it to me. No note, just this flower. I love flowers. They are my treat a few times a year to buy. They bring me so much Joy, reminding me of specific times in my life where they lifted me up. Times in my life when I was happy. This friend knew I needed a pick me up. There are not enough words to express the depth of its meaning. When I opened the envelope there was no note, only this beautiful flower that she took the time to paint. So, I have two question for you; how are you Joy in the world and to others? And where will you find Joy in your day today? What is unseen beauty?
It lies within your day every step you take. We are walking in our hurriedness, in our stress and most times our awareness is pointed at only that which we need to accomplish in our day. When we live in such a manner, we miss the beauty in front of us. Today, look up. Walk slowly. Listen more closely. There is a child wanting to ask you a question. There is an elderly person sitting alone at the park just wanting someone to acknowledge them. The man behind the coffee counter is having the hardest day of his life, but he hands you your order with a smile. Be present. Take your lunch away from your desk and sit in the garden, be mindful. Offer a smile, a greeting or even a moment to listen. At the end of the day, tell me of all the unseen beauty that awakened you today! Life throws so many different challenges directly into our path at any given moment. A day does not go by where one has to step back, take a deep breath, and jump in or release and let go. But the one thing I do know after walking this far on the way is that I can do nothing for others until I have done the inner work within myself. Every talk, every retreat, every book I always will say that I practice what I preach; it is journey, never a destination. There is always going to be work, moments of forgiveness in ourselves and others, pain we unintentionally inflicted and pain we received, broken dreams and hearts that are simply a part of the path and then our little bit of light comes once we take a long look in the mirror and truly see the inner parts of ourselves that have been waiting for us to come back to our inner core; to come back home within. What in your life is asking of you to look in your mirror and come home to yourself before facing a new path in the world?
What are you carrying today?
Every day we wake up we are inevitably carrying more than we can handle at that given moment. Each day is filled with responsibilities big and small, thoughts of others in our lives who need our hand and at the foot of our day are our (cross) pains, struggles, wounds, trials and stories that we are carrying to an unknown resting place. What are you carrying? It is likely that there is one thing in your life that is holding you down at times; not every day, not every moment, but taking up space that is not allowing you to live more fully. What are you carrying? Hold this. Live this. Breathe this. Release this. Allow your being to be open to the world in front of you, not those stories that you carried for so long which hold nothing but darkness. Allow your light to come. |
