ec·u·me·nism: “the principle or aim of promoting unity among the world's Christian churches.”
Anam Nostos House is the definition of Ecumenism. It was born out of a long spiritual journey that has gone in many different directions over four decades and rested in a place of unity and peace.
Born and raised in a strict Catholic family, I left, returned, left, returned and now just meander around as I have found the beauty in all faiths over my journey.
I take a little something from each religion which I am fond of and mold it into something very beautiful in practice.
There is a gift in all religions that I truly believe we need to search out along our own way, for if we aren’t engaging in our brothers and sisters teachings then how can we presume to think we can preach ours to them? It is respect, it is human decency to come to our table ready to take in all that is in front of us in gratitude and unity.
I believe when we are able to listen to the world religions around us, we can then appreciate our fellow pilgrims in faith within a new light. We can then be open to other parts of the story as we share our own. We can enrich our prayer practices and engage in more ways than just the solitary one we may know.
When we come together in unity, we walk away with peace.
Anam Nostos House will become a reality one day and when it does all will be welcome. All ceremonies, prayer services, and rituals will be welcome. It will be a safe sanctuary to nurture the spiritual presence in one’s life no matter which direction you choose to take your story. But furthermore it will be a place to add to your own spiritual journey by experiencing religions of the world, whether you choose to be in the community present or have a quiet reflective solitary retreat.
Will you take that risk?
Will you be open to the call?
Will you search out peace in unity?
